The colours of a medal ribbon bar hold a personal record of service, commitment and achievement. Service in Colour enlarges that familiar arrangement into a distinctive piece of contemporary framed art.

Choose from one to eight medal ribbons. Each ribbon is represented using clean, precisely defined colour, printed as a 280 × 100mm aluminium panel and mounted onto 5mm MDF. The complete arrangement is then custom-set within a handmade black wooden frame.

Appropriate raised emblems can be added for £15 each. A low-resolution PDF proof is emailed for careful checking before production.

How it works

Created for one individual service history

1. Choose your ribbon count

Select the product matching the total number of medal ribbons you want represented.

2. Provide your ribbon and emblem details

Tell us which ribbons are required, their correct order and the type and position of any emblems. Optional emblems are £15 each.

3. Check and approve your proof

We will email a low-resolution PDF proof. Check every ribbon, the order of precedence and every emblem before approving production.

4. Handmade to order

Once approved for production, the aluminium panels are mounted and custom-set within a handmade black wooden frame. Please allow approximately 28 days for production.

9. Ribbon arrangement section

From a single ribbon to a complete service display

Artworks containing one to four ribbons are displayed in one horizontal row. Five to eight ribbons are arranged over two rows, with up to four ribbons in each row, recreating the recognisable stacked form of a traditional ribbon bar.

The handmade frame follows the outline of the final arrangement, giving each ribbon count its own distinctive silhouette.

11. Proof and approval section

Made only after you have checked the details

Before production, a low-resolution PDF proof is emailed for approval. This gives the customer the opportunity to check:

• The ribbons selected
• Their order from left to right
• Ribbon colours and design
• The type and position of every emblem
• The complete arrangement

Production follows the proof approved by the customer, so all details must be checked carefully.

Because each piece is personalised and custom-made, it cannot normally be cancelled or returned because the customer has changed their mind. Corrections required after production has begun because of customer-supplied or approved information will be chargeable. This does not affect statutory rights where an item is faulty, damaged, not as described or differs from the approved proof.

How do I know which ribbon-count product to choose?

Count the medal ribbons you want represented and select the corresponding product. Emblems are additions to a ribbon and do not increase the ribbon count.

Are these made from medal ribbon fabric?

No. Each ribbon is reinterpreted using clean, precisely defined colour and printed onto premium aluminium. This produces a contemporary art piece rather than a photographic or fabric reproduction.

Can I add emblems?

Yes. Appropriate emblems can be laser-cut, hand-painted and fixed to the relevant ribbon for £15 each.

Will I see the design before production?

Yes. A low-resolution PDF proof will be emailed for checking and approval before production.

What details should I check on my proof?

Check every ribbon, its position and order, and the type and position of all emblems. Production will follow the proof you approve.

How are five to eight ribbons arranged?

They are stacked over two rows, with up to four ribbons in each row. The frame is handmade to follow the finished outline.

How long does production take?

Please allow approximately 28 days. Each piece is personalised, proofed and handmade to order.

How is the artwork hung?

The frame is supplied with brass sawtooth hanging hardware. The appropriate wall fixing will depend on the construction of the wall and is not included.

Can personalised artwork be returned?

Personalised, custom-made items cannot normally be returned because of a change of mind. Statutory rights still apply if an item is faulty, damaged, not as described or differs from the approved proof.
