The Military Medal – George VI Second World War Full-Size Medal is a reproduction of the distinguished British gallantry award presented for bravery under fire.

Originally instituted in 1916, the Military Medal was awarded to warrant officers, non-commissioned officers and other ranks for individual or associated acts of bravery in the field. During the Second World War, recipients included personnel from the British Army and Commonwealth forces serving across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Approximately 15,000 Military Medals were awarded during the Second World War, together with 177 first award bars and a single second award bar. Each bar represented a further qualifying act of bravery.

This version features the crowned, left-facing portrait of King George VI with the Second World War inscription including “INDIAE IMP”. The reverse carries the words “FOR BRAVERY IN THE FIELD” within a laurel wreath, surmounted by the Royal Cypher and crown.

The medal is worn from its distinctive dark blue ribbon with central white and crimson stripes.
