This full-size reproduction of the British Victory Medal represents the service of millions of personnel during the First World War.

The medal was issued in bronze to eligible personnel who served in an operational theatre of war between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918. It was not awarded alone: recipients also qualified for the British War Medal.

The Victory Medal resulted from an agreement between the Allied nations to produce their own national versions of a shared campaign medal. These medals followed a broadly similar design and used the distinctive double-rainbow ribbon.

The British version features a full-length winged figure of Victory holding a palm branch. The reverse bears the inscription “THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914–1919” within a laurel wreath.

Recipients who were Mentioned in Despatches were authorised to wear an oak-leaf emblem on the ribbon. Only one emblem was worn, irrespective of the number of mentions received.
