This full-size reproduction of the British War Medal represents one of the principal campaign medals awarded for service during the First World War.

The medal was generally awarded to members of the British and Imperial forces who completed at least 28 days of mobilised service during 1914–1918. Its qualifying period was subsequently extended to include certain post-war operations, including mine clearance and service in Russia during 1919 and 1920.

The obverse features a left-facing portrait of King George V. The reverse depicts St George on horseback, armed with a short sword and trampling the symbols of the defeated Central Powers. The dates “1914” and “1918” appear beside the design.

The ribbon has a broad orange centre with narrow white, black and blue stripes along each edge. The standard medal was originally issued in silver, with a separate bronze version awarded primarily to personnel serving with various Labour Corps.
