1914 Star Full Size Medal – Without Mons Bar

This full-size reproduction of the 1914 Star represents service during the opening months of the First World War.

Also known as the Mons Star, it was awarded to eligible British and Imperial personnel who served in France or Belgium between 5 August 1914 and midnight on 22–23 November 1914. Recipients included members of the original British Expeditionary Force, its early reinforcements and eligible medical and nursing personnel.

The medal takes the form of a four-pointed bronze star surmounted by a crown. Crossed swords, an oak-leaf wreath, the Royal Cypher of King George V and a central scroll inscribed “AUG 1914 NOV” complete the design. Its ribbon features shaded red, white and blue stripes.

In 1919, King George V authorised the clasp inscribed “5TH AUG.–22ND NOV. 1914” for qualifying recipients who had served under enemy fire or within range of enemy mobile artillery. This listing is for the standard 1914 Star without that clasp.
