This full-size reproduction of the 1914–15 Star represents operational service during the opening years of the First World War.

Established in December 1918, the medal was awarded to eligible British and Imperial personnel who served in a recognised theatre of war between 5 August 1914 and 31 December 1915. Personnel who had already qualified for the earlier 1914 Star were not eligible.

More than 2.3 million 1914–15 Stars were awarded. Recipients normally also qualified for the British War Medal and Victory Medal, creating the three-medal group popularly known as “Pip, Squeak and Wilfred”.

The medal takes the form of a four-pointed bronze star surmounted by a crown. Crossed swords, an oak-leaf wreath, the Royal Cypher of King George V and a central scroll inscribed “1914–15” complete the design. Its distinctive watered ribbon uses shaded red, white and blue stripes.
